Today is World Mental Health Day, with over 150 countries marking the day by raising awareness about mental health education and breaking down the social stigma that can surround mental health.

Speaking on the Dermot & Dave show on Today FM for World Mental Health Day, Brian Pennie stressed the importance of mindfulness, which he says helped save his life following years of anxiety and chronic heroin addiction.

On October 8th 2013, Brian experienced his first day clean after 15 years of heroin addiction. He had lost his job and his relationships and his health were deteriorating.

Soon after his detox Brian enrolled in university to study psychology, he is now a scholarship PhD student studying the neuroscience of mindfulness in Trinity

Clinical hypnotherapist Fiona Brennan first met Brian when she was researching her upcoming book.

She says she was truly inspired by Brian's story, adding we need to share positive stories of hope if we want to see significant change.

Fiona says, 'Mental health should be focused on everyday, not just today,' and so she has made positive, relaxing and uplifting hypnotherapy audio available to everyone for free, all you have to do is log onto www.thepositivehabit.com

Brian also has a guide 'The Nine Strategies I Used To Completely Transform My Life' which is available via listeners brianpennie.com.
