The National Women's Council of Ireland believes a cartoon depicting Mary Lou McDonald as a witch was 'deeply sexist'.
The image of the Sinn Fein leader appeared in yesterday's Sunday Independent.
Mary Lou McDonald responded to the cartoon on Twitter:
We are the granddaughters of the witches you could not burn - Deal with it #womenpower

According to the national women's council, the cartoon published in the Sunday Independent is exactly why women won't enter politics.
Spokesperson Emma De Souza says the witch cartoon is a "deeply sexist troupe used to dehumanize women."
She says "Ireland is currently ranked 101st globally for female parliamentarians which is hardly a position to be proud of. Cultural institutions such as the media do play a significant role in shaping society's perception of women."
