A new study has found women are more likely to fall down stairs, due to their footwear or being distracted
Researchers in the US filmed 2,400 adults, under the age of 40, going down two staircases and found women were more likely to be engaging in 'risky behaviours', such as multitasking or having a conversation, when compared to young men.
Women were also found to be more likely to be wearing high heels or sandals, which may throw off their footing.
Neurosciencenews.com reports the study, at Purdue University in Indiana, identified eight risky behaviours including not using the handrail, not watching the stairs while descending, wearing inappropriate footwear, having a conversation, using electronic devices, having hands in pockets, holding something, and skipping steps.
This behavioural pattern could explain why women in their 20s suffer stair-related injuries 80% more often than men.
