Investigations will continue this morning into the road crash in Co Mayo in which a woman and two girls were killed.
The car they were in hit a lorry on the N17 at Castlegar, near Claremorris shortly before 2pm on Tuesday afternoon. No other injuries were reported.
The identities of the victims are not yet known, but it's believed they're not local and are from Galway.
They're understood to be a mother and her two daughters. The girls were both aged under 10.
Cathaoirleach of the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District, Gerry Murray, says people in the area are devastated.
"Absolutely shocked, you know, particularly in the run up to Easter.
"For this particular family to have to endure this sort of an ordeal over the next few days and indeed indefinitely it's a huge tragedy for all involved, but particularly for the family impacted by this".
Gardaí have also issued an appeal for images of the scene, which are circulating on social media, not to be shared further.
Late last night both the car and a van, which was not directly involved, were taken from the scene. The road remained closed overnight as emergency services struggled to remove the truck.
