Woman Airlifted From Roof Of Blarney Castle After Suffering Minor Injury

A Coast Guard rescue helicopter has airlifted an injured woman to safety from the roof of Blarney Castle in Co Cork this afternoon.

It's understood the woman suffered a minor hip injury inside the medieval stronghold.

The roof can only be accessed by spiral stairs.

A Coast Guard spokesman says it was decided a helicopter rescue was the "safest method of recovery due to access issues".

Its Valentia operations centre coordinated the airlift by the Shannon-based Rescue 115.

The helicopter got to the scene shortly after 3pm and winched her aboard, before landing and transferring her to a waiting ambulance.
