Met Éireann is warning that high-winds today could "significantly impact on the public".
The forecaster has issued a "Status Orange" warning - with gusts of 120 kilometres per hour recorded so far.
Ulster, Connacht and Leinster will be hammered by gale force winds of 80 to 100 kilometres per hour.
And Met Éireann's Pat Clarke says the most powerful winds are hitting the North Coast.
