Gardai are carrying out roadside checks across the country today as part of Tyre Safety Day.
After reviewing Garda forensic road collision reports, the RSA estimate that defective tyres could be a factor in one in ten fatal crashes annually, resulting in around 14 deaths each year.
Roscommon Gardaí were conducting checkpoints this morning as part of #TyreSafetyDay. Two motorist were found to have defective tyres.

The advice is not to wait for your NCT to check if your tyres are roadworthy, and conduct a regular walk-around of your car and check your tyres.

If your vehicle’s tyres show signs of deterioration, you should have them replaced immediately.
