For a heatwave to be called the temperature must be five degrees above average for five days in a row.
Met Eireann forecast another hot and mostly sunny day today.
It expects a mostly dry day ahead, though there is the chance of a few heavy possibly thundery showers breaking out in the north midlands and west late this afternoon and evening.
