Walk -in vaccination centres will open this Bank Holiday Weekend.
Full details are expected to be revealed by the HSE later, while a decision is also set to be announced on vaccinating 12-15-year-olds.
The vaccine portal has opened for 16 and 17-year-olds this morning.
Speaking on his way into Cabinet, Taoiseach Micheal Martin described the programme as "effective".
He says he hopes the walk-in centres will help to get more younger people vaccinated.
"We want to encourage high participation rates among the remaining age cohorts."
