A SINN FÉIN TD did an unusual thing for a politician in the Dáil today: he said nothing at all.
Cork North-Central TD Jonathan O'Brien offered the unusual gesture as a way of canvassing support for his party's calls for bilateral cochlear implants.
The party says an extra €13,5 million should be allocated to allow deaf children be fitted with a cochlear implant in each ear, instead of only being given one.
Otherwise, it says, children run the risk of having their implant become defective over time and losing their hearing for good.
