VHI is raising the price of its insurance premiums by an average price of 6%.
The price hikes will come into effect from August 1st.
The company says the increases are "necessary to ensure the cost of the future healthcare needs of its customers in 2020 and beyond can be met."
People who have HealthPlus Premium will pay up to €320 extra per year for the service, while the One Plan Starter package will rise by under €6.
The price of the HealthPlus Platinum package will remain unchanged.
In 2018, VHI paid out €1.3 billion in claims and processed almost 1.2 million claims.
VHI's Director of Marketing and Business Development, Declan Moran, explains why costs are rising:
"Today’s price increase reflects rising costs in hospitals, increases in consultants’ fees, increased utilisation of medical services by our customers and the broadening range of innovative treatments and drugs available in healthcare today."
