Leo Varadkar says he doesn't believe Fáilte Ireland guidelines were breached by a recent event he attended at the Merrion Hotel.
The Tánaiste was at the outdoor function, hosted by Katherine Zappone, along with around 50 other people.
It was held just days before Zappone was offered the role of UN Special Envoy by the government.
The Fine Gael leader admitted to RTÉ's Six One news the Failte Ireland guidelines at the time of the event were not clear and open to interpretation.
He apologised to those in the hospitality sector for the incident and said 'he let his guard down'.
Failte Ireland's guidelines were updated today, but the Tanaiste insists this was not done "because of the event".
Leo Varadkar also said it was yet to be decided whether the UN Special Envoy role offered to Katherine Zappone will be filled now she's turned it down.
