U.S. intelligence chiefs have insisted they don't unlawfully spy on American citizens or indiscriminately target world leaders.
The National Security Agency's leaders were up before a Senate committee in Washington last night following reports that millions of calls across France and Germany had been monitored as well as the mobile phone of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
They've denied claims they collected call data from European citizens.
