Trooper Shane Kearney who was injured in an attack in Lebanon while serving with the Irish Defence Forces on a peacekeeping mission has left hospital.
In December, Trooper Kearney was in an armoured convoy to Beirut which was attacked.
In the attack, Private Sean Rooney was killed.
The Defence Forces said today in a statement, "Trooper Shane Kearney is being discharged from Beaumont Hospital today, Friday 03 February, to continue his recovery at home.
"He still requires further medical treatment later in the year but the medical staff are satisfied with his continued and steady progress to allow him to continue his recuperation at home with his family.
"The Defence Forces and the Kearney family ask all media outlets to please continue to respect Shane's privacy during this time."
In the days after the attack, Trooper Kearney was treated for his injuries in Lebanon before a medical evacuation to Ireland just before Christmas.
In January, the Defence Forces said Trooper Kearney was no longer in a critical condition.
