The EU traffic light system for air travel will likely not be fully-adopted by Government, according to a travel expert.

From Monday there will be no countries on Ireland's green list.

The list currently consists of Cyprus, Finland, Latvia and Liechtenstein, but all four countries will now be removed amid surging coronavirus cases around Europe.

EU foreign ministers will decide on adopting a traffic light system at a meeting next Tuesday, which will see member states branded red, green, orange or grey depending on their rate of Covid-19 cases.

Editor of Travel Extra Eoghan Corry doesn't think it will be a remedy for the travel industry:

"It doesn't look like we're going to properly align with this. It looks like a soundbite; and next week we could be back in the same situation; with no panacea as you say for the travel industry; no ability for the aviation industry to plan; and a big question mark over, for instance, Cork and Shannon airports."
