Trainee doctors are working up to 60 hours a week despite the European Working Time directive saying the limit should be 48 hours.
The figures are part of a new Medical Council report for 2017 on doctors in training.
The report also found 41 percent of respondents had experienced bullying.
The survey found those working longer hours were more likely to have been involved in an 'adverse event'.
President of the Irish Medical Organisation, Dr.Padraig McGarry, says the general public wouldn't accept the hours trainee doctors have to work.
