Met Éireann has issued a status orange wind warning for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.
A period of very windy weather is expected to develop this evening, with some strong and damaging gusts likely.
A status yellow wind warning is in place for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Tipperary and Waterford.
The weather forecaster is also advising of a snow-ice warning with snow accumulations in Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo.
Meanwhile, Dublin City Council has activated flood defences in some areas due to high tides - car parks at the Clontarf and Sandymount seafronts have been closed for the day.
