Three quarters of people aren't compensated for working overtime.
A new report from Morgan McKinley is based on a survey of 2,500 Irish professionals in May.
It found 65 percent of people work for longer than their contracted working-hours.
The number of people working for more than their set hours is actually down 8 percent on three years ago.
People across several sectors were interviewed, including accountants, engineers and office staff.
Morgan McKinley's Bryan Hyland says technological improvements partly explain why people aren't being compensated for overtime, "one of the challenges as we face into the flexible working solutions is people are more accessible. They are receiving more communication more times during the working day so therefore the traditional 9 to 5 is now defunct. So there's a challenge to employers is get the balance right with regard to what's a feasible working week and when people should be accessing their laptops and phones in order to stay in touch."
