New resarch to be unveiled today shows Irish teenagers are influenced to smoke by cigarette packaging.
The study of 15 and 16 year-olds was carried out by the Irish Cancer Society and Irish Heart Foundation - both of which support the introduction of plain-packaging for all tobacco products.
The Irish Heart Foundation's Chris Macey says the decision to introduce plain-packaging is a brave decision.
He says the branding on packaging makes smoking more appealing to teens.
Chris Macey says this is the first time, Irish research has shown that plain-packing works.
