Over 1,300 complaints were made about taxi drivers last year, an increase of 14.5 percent on the previous year.
According to figures from the National Transport Authority, 529 complaints were over driver behaviour, while 470 related to alleged overcharging.
More than 1,800 fines were issued last year, with 148 fines as a result of customer complaints.
The fines resulted in overall penalties for drivers of €108,660.
Overcharging, smelly taxis and aggressive driving were just some of the main concerns.
In one case, a passenger said that their driver 'shouldn't be allowed to drive a shopping trolley let alone a taxi'.
Joe Heron, President of the Irish Taxi Drivers Federation says some complaints are more serious than others: 'There are reasons to complain, but there are also people who it is their nature to complain and they look for reasons to complain, but taking the scenic route, where that occurs that is very wrong, and just plain overcharging in whatever fashion it's done is wrong'.
