The Taoiseach is urging US politicians to open up new forms of legal immigration for Irish people.
Leo Varadkar made the comments at the White House Shamrock ceremony, where he also said the US shouldn't lose sight of the things that made America great already, including freedoms and civil rights.
Today he travels to Chicago to meet with Irish emigrant support groups, and will attend a St Patrick’s Day dinner with the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago.
