The Taoiseach will leave Washington DC tonight after contracting Covid-19 on March 16th.
He was at a gala dinner in the US Capital when a test result came back to reveal Micheal Martin was Covid-positive.
US President Joe Biden was also attending the dinner; however, he was not considered a close contact.
The Taoiseach was due to meet with the US President on St Patrick's Day in the White House's Oval Office, however that had to be changed to a remote meeting.
It was the second year in a row he met the US President remotely.
The US President will be in Brussels tomorrow to meet with the leaders of the EU 27 member states, which the Taoiseach will now be attending.
In a statement, the Government said:
"The Taoiseach will attend an important meeting of the European Council in Brussels tomorrow which will discuss Russian military aggression against Ukraine, security and defence, energy, economic issues, COVID-19 and external relations.
"He has now received two successive negative COVID tests ahead of his departure from the US, and he will fly home from Washington DC this evening."
