Houses need to be built faster and the delivery needs to be better.
That's according to Micheal Martin, who in his final week as Taoiseach says housing is 'the biggest issue facing society'.
His comments come as the Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien is set to face a no confidence vote in the Dáil this week.
The Taoiseach says younger people need to be able to aspire to homeownership.
"I do accept that this is the biggest issue facing society, and it's an issue that we have to deal with."
"We want younger people to have the right to aspire to homeownership."
"People who can't be in a position to aspire to homeownership, that we have social housing and cost rental that's affordable."
