The Taoiseach has invited Boris Johnson to Dublin "to share further their respective analyses on Brexit".
The leaders spoke over the phone today, in their first conversation since Johnson took up the role of British Prime Minister 6 days ago.
Leo Varadkar extended his congratulations to Mr Johnson on his appointment, and also said he's looking forward to having a long and close working relationship with him.

Since taking office less than a week ago, the British PM has committed to achieving Brexit on October 31st with or without a deal.
He has also called for the backstop to be abolished from the withdrawal agreement.

Today Leo Varadkar emphasised that the backstop "was necessary as a consequence of decisions taken in the UK and by the UK Government".
The Taoiseach also said that "the EU was united in its view that the Withdrawal Agreement could not be reopened."
