Tánaiste Receives Report Into Convictions of Defence Forces Members
The Tanaiste and Minister for Defence Michael Martin has received a report on convictions within the Defence Forces.
It was requested in the wake of the conviction of a soldier for assaulting Natasha O'Brien two years ago in Limerick.
The suspended sentence handed down in the case prompted demonstrations across the country and widespread criticism from politicians.
Internal proceedings are underway following the conviction in a civilian court.
Taoiseach Simon Harris has re-iterated his concern over the issue of convictions of Defence Force members.
"I do remain, this afternoon, very concerned. There is no place, in my view, for people who have convictions, in the Defence Forces".
