Students who receive the maintenance grant will get an extra payment today.
The extra payment was announced as part of Budget 2023 and will see eligible PLC, undergraduate and postgraduate students who receive the Special Rate of the grant, receive the equivalent of one monthly maintenance grant payment at 2022 levels.
Today’s payment is in addition to the scheduled maintenance grant payment which was paid yesterday, Thursday, December 15th.
Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris the maintenance grant is vital to help tackle financial pressures facings students and help to "deliver fairness and equality across our education sector".

The Union of Students in Ireland, says maintenance grants are paid at adjacent and non-adjacent rates.
The non-adjacent rate is paid when a student’s college is more than 30km from their normal residence.
The adjacent rate is paid when a student's college is 30km or less from their normal residence.
