Student nurses who lost their employment due to COVID-19 will be eligible for PUP payments, the Health Minister has confirmed.
This may be applied from the date of loss of employment.
The Government said they want to ensure any student nurse who lost employment during the pandemic is supported.
So if a student nurse lost a weekend job in a shop; they will now get PUP while continuing to work in our hospitals

The INMO and students have raised issues of loss of income during COVID-19 due to fewer opportunities for part time work, particularly in nursing homes.
There are about 4,500 student nurses in Ireland.
The thousands of nurses who have been working in Irish healthcare settings during the pandemic have been receiving an allowance of €50 per week.
