Northern Ireland is on course for a second assembly election this year after the deadline to form an executive passed overnight.
The DUP is still blocking the formation of an executive at Stormont, in protest over the Northern Ireland Protocol which was brought in following Brexit.
Northern Ireland's Secretary of State, Chris Heaton-Harris, must call an election to be held within 12 weeks.
The most likely date is 15 December, although a date for a poll doesn't have to be set immediately.
Leader of the Alliance Party, Naomi Long, says she's embarrassed to be associated with politics at Stormont.
"I am ashamed to be part of this circus yet again. We know elections in Northern Ireland do not solve problems, they deepen the crisis."
"Right now there is one issue that is preventing us from restoring the assembly. There is one party that is preventing us from restoring the assembly and executive."
