Winds of up to 150 kilometres per hour are expected to batter the country this evening and overnight.
Met Eireann has issued a Status Red weather warning for parts of the country, with counties Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway and Mayo expected to be worst affected.
Storm damage is likely, as is disruption to power supplies and phone lines.
Eircom will have 700 crews working tomorrow to repair network damage caused by the stormy weather.
Meanwhile, Irish Ferries and Stena Line have already cancelled some services for tomorrow due to the expected stormy sea conditions.
