Soft Drinks, Sweets And Cheese Among Most Common Last Minute Buys In Supermarkets This Christmas
Soft drinks, confectionery and cheese are the most common items bought in Tesco on Christmas Eve.
The data from last year shows sour cream and onion crisps and salt and vinegar flavoured Pringles along with Doritos, were among the most commonly bought snacks the 24th of December last year.
Tesco Ireland says it was the first time fruits, salads and vegetables made it to the top 10 items bought on Christmas Eve, which could point to more starter courses being served s part of Christmas dinner.
Tesco says December 23rd is the busiest day of the festive period.
On Christmas eve 2022, individual product sales for the last hour of trading on Christmas Eve included, Baileys, reusable bags, Coca Cola, milk and Pringles crisps.
The supermarket chain says it expects to sell 7.5 million individual brussels sprouts this year.

Tesco is also appealing to people to be aware of food waste and think before throwing food away in the bin. They're advising people to use up leftovers with stews, curries, or even 'turkey nuggets'.
They're also asking people to consider donating any leftover non-perishable or tinned foods to a local charity or food bank.
