Snow is being forecast to fall over parts of Connacht, Munster and Leinster today.
Met Eireann says rain "Some of the rain will turn to sleet and snow in parts of Munster, Leinster and Connacht, mainly later this afternoon and evening".
Forecasters expect the conditions will gradually clear southwards tonight.
Some dry spells in the northeast but generally cloudy with showers/longer spells of rain, heavy at times with a risk of hail & thunder. Highs 5 to 8 degrees. The day is expected to be cold, with top temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees nationwide.
Meanwhile, a status yellow rain warning has been issued for seven counties.
Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wicklow, Offaly and Tipperary are all under the warning from two o'clock this afternoon.
Met Eireann says spells of heavy rain is likely to lead to some spot flooding.
