The scheduled opening date for visitors to Skellig Michael has been deferred.
It was hoped the island, which lies 12 kilometres off the South West Kerry coast, would open to visitors this Saturday.
However, with poor weather conditions forecast over the coming days pre-season safety works cannot be completed on time.
Due to poor weather and sea conditions, safe visitor access to Skellig Michael is not feasible currently and the proposed opening date of 18th May has therefore been deferred. A revised opening date will be announced as soon as possible. pic.twitter.com/aR15fp0QOK

An OPW spokesperson said “We apologise for the disruption this will inevitably cause to some visitors”.
"Skellig Michael is an extremely challenging environment and the safety of our visitors must remain a priority."
