A six-year-old boy has died in county Mayo after being found in a stream close to his home.
At around 1 o'clock today Gardaí received a report of a young boy missing from his home at Rehins Fort, near Ballina.
Members of the force and local residents took part in a search and found the boy in a steam close to the River Moy.
He was treated at the scene, before being taken to Mayo University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The coroner has been notified and a post-mortem will take place.
Gardaí are treating it as a tragic accident.
