A new programme designed to educate students about consent and to clampdown on sexual harassment and violence is being rolled out University College Cork.

The online Bystander Intervention Programme, which urges students to act on their shared responsibilities in building a culture of zero tolerance, aims to prevent it from happening on and off campus.

It encourages all UCC college-goers to understand consent and the boundaries surrounding sexual assault, rape and abusive relationships.

Louise Crowley Senior Lecturer in Law at UCC is the person leading the new programme: 'The traumatic impact of rape and sexual assault cannot be overstated and one would like to think that people would intervene should they come upon such a horrific situation. What is more difficult is the more normalised inappropriate language, unsolicited texts and unfair comments that people might experience.
