Fianna Fail Senator Lisa Chambers says a person once hand-delivered a rape threat to her constituency office in Co Mayo.
She says that incident and daily online abuse have made her consider quitting politics.
It comes after two female TDs said men have harassed them at their homes and offices.
Gardai later had to get involved.
It's led to calls for more to be done to ensure the safety of female politicians.
Senator Lisa Chambers says the situation is not acceptable and admits she has considered quitting public life due to the daily abuse she has received.
She's told the Last Word it has been frightening at times:
"I've had a card that was hand-delivered to my constituency office talking about rape".
Senator Chambers she was also unnerved by one particular Twitter follower who was saying things to here for "a few years".
She says many female politicians feel receiving abuse and being harrassed has just become "part of the job."
