A former attorney general has said abolishing the Seanad may make it more difficult to secure a United Ireland.
John Rogers says the Seanad was designed to be a home for minority voices - and would be ideally placed if Ireland was reunited.
He says those who favour a United Ireland should try to maintain the Seanad because it would offer a voice for Unionists.
Mr Rogers, who served between 1984 and 1987, says the Seanad is almost tailor-made for the job:
