Scientists believe that they have come up with a formula for the perfect cup of coffee which requires fewer beans that are ground more coarsely.
Mathematicians, physicists and other experts have collaborated to devise the recipe for a study published in the journal 'Matter'.
The University of Portsmouth team found that fewer beans ground more coarsely created a drink that is cheaper to make, more consistent from shot to shot and just as strong.
According to a spokesperson from the University of Portsmouth, the new recipe has been trialled in a small coffee shop in the United States.
Over a period of one year, the coffee shop has reported saving thousands of dollars.
