Saoirse McHugh has quit the Green Party.
The high-profile election candidate made the announcement on Twitter this morning.
The pfg that has been agreed on is a terrible document. The membership were told it contained certain things that it didn’t.
This government, I believe (and I hope I’m wrong) will do massive damage to the idea of environmentalism by linking it with socially regressive policies 2/— Saoirse McHugh (@saoirse_mchugh) July 23, 2020
In her tweet, the Achill Island native hits out at the programme for government saying it is a terrible document.
McHugh has said she can't stomach being associated with the Greens and that this government will do massive damage to the idea of environmentalism.
She also said she has seen brilliant and brave people bullied within parties and that she hopes some Green members break away to form another party.
McHugh ran as a candidate in last year's European elections in 2019 the 2020 General Election.
She failed to win a seat in either election.
