Irish Ryanair pilots are to take part in a 48 work stoppage next week after mediation talks between their union IALPA and the airline broke down.
Directly-employed pilots will strike on Thursday, August 22nd, while further strike dates are to be announced soon.
IALPA served strike notice on the company this evening after 94% of them voted to back industrial action, in a dispute over pay and working conditions.
Both sides attended talks with mediator Kieran Mulvey earlier today, but they broke down.
Ryanair claims the union withdrew from those talks when no progress was made on 'unrealistic' and 'unimplementable' pay proposals.
The company claims the pilots are seeking pay increases of 101% on top of their annual salaries of €172,000.
Ryanair is urging IALPA to return to the mediation talks.
