RTÉ broadcaster Dave Fanning has apologised for calling the recent Oireachtas Committees over the recent payments scandal at the broadcaster a "nonsensical Oireachtas Nuremberg trial".
The original tweet which was promoting his radio show as a "distraction" from the hearings has been deleted.
The issue was raised today at the Public Accounts Committee by Labour TD Alan Kelly who questioned whether it is appropriate.
In response, Director General of RTÉ Kevin Bakhurst said it "is not appropriate from my point of view."
He continued to say, "the work of this Committee has been incredibly important to try to" get to the bottom of the RTÉ scandal.
Today, Dave Fanning tweeted to say, "I want to apologise unreservedly to the Oireachtas Committee for my ill-judged comment regarding this week's hearings.
I want to apologise unreservedly to the Oireachtas Committee for my ill judged comment regarding this weeks hearings. There was no intention to trivialise the proceedings.

"There was no intention to trivialise the proceedings."
Dave Fanning recently apologised for comments relating to Aslan frontman Christy Dignam who died last month.
On Tuesday, presenter Ryan Tubridy and his agent Noel Kelly appeared before two Oireachtas Committees.
They gave over six hours of evidence to the Public Accounts Commitee and the Media Committee.
