RTÉ Director-General Kevin Bakhurst will meet with Ryan Tubridy again in the coming weeks
It follows a "one-to-one meeting" between them in recent days.
A statement from the state broadcaster says the pair had a "good, open, and constructive conversation".
Ryan has been off the air since the payments scandal broke at RTÉ last month.
His future at the station still remains in doubt.
Terry Prone from the Communications Clinic thinks the meeting was conducted away from Montrose:
"Even this particular meeting, there was very little chatter in advance of it happening".
"Directly afterwards, nobody in RTE, according to the Mail, seemed to know that the meeting had actually happened".
