The head of the HSE insists hospitals are coping at the moment.
However, CEO Paul Reid says facilities are anxious regarding what lies ahead in the coming months.
"Whilst our hospitals are at the moment coping, they are extremely anxious about what lies ahead, particularly about what lies ahead in November."
Mr Reid says hospitals are also expressing concerns about staff absenteeism, and how community transmission fo the virus will affect that in the winter months.
