32 People Due In Court In Connection With Riots And Violence In Dublin City Centre
The Garda Commissioner says 34 arrests have been made in connection with disorder in Dublin city on Thursday night.
Gardaí say 32 of the 34 people arrested will appear before the courts on Friday.
In all, seven vehicles were damaged by fire including three buses, three Garda patrol cars and a Luas tram.
Eight other Garda vehicles were extensively damaged while 13 properties were attacked, causing extensive damage.
A number of Garda officers were also injured during the course of the rioting, with one member of the force hospitalised with serious injuries.
Drew Harris says thousands of hours of video and CCTV footage will in analysed in order to identify people involved in riots and violence around the O'Connell Street and Parnell Street areas.
Commissioner Drew Harris believes many of those involved in Thursday night's have been 'radicalised through social media'.
"These are scenes that we've not seen in decades, but what is clear that people have been radicalised through social media, over the internet, and I don't want to lose focus on the terrible event in terms of the assault, dreadful assault, on the school children and their teacher.
Gardaí say calm was finally restored around midnight on Thursday after hours of clashes which involved attacks on police officers, burning of vehicles and looting.
The disorder was sparked following a stabbing incident outside a school on Parnell Square on earlier on Thursday afternoon.
A 5-year-old girl, who was attacked in Thursday afternoon's stabbing incident, remains in a critical condition in hospital.
Two other young children, and a woman in her 30s, were also treated for injuries after the attack.
The suspect, a man in his late 40s, was arrested at the scene and was taken to hospital.
Dublin Bus services resumed on Friday morning after they were suspended on Thursday night.
However, buses cannot serve Parnell Street, Parnell Square, and O’Connell Street, with diversions via Gardiner Street and Church Street.
The operator of Luas services say extensive damage has been caused to over head power cables in the city centre.
Red Line services are not operating between Smithfield and The Point.
Green Line services are not running between St. Stephen's Green and Broombridge.
