The leader of Fine Gael's campaign in the Seanad referendum says the government WILL deliver 20 million euro of savings if it's scrapped.
Richard Bruton says the Seanad's full costs of 20 million euro a year WILL be saved as a result of government actions.
The Houses of the Oireachtas Commission has previously stressed that the costs of running the Seanad cannot necessarily be saved by closing it.
His comments come as a poll in today's Irish Times shows 44 per cent of voters are in favour of getting rid of the upper house.
27 per cent are against the proposal, 21 per cent are undecided and 8 per cent say they wont vote
The biggest motivating factor for people is the savings to be generated.
