The Minister for Transport is to unveil details of an audit of the speed limits on the country's roads today.
The plan comes a year after Leo Varadkar appointed a working group to assess areas where the limit may be too high or too low.
The Transport Minister launched the review in February saying there is a need to ensure all speed restrictions are both safe and sensible.
Speed limits are set by the Minister for Transport but specific limits applied on particular roads are determined by the local authorities, in consultation with the Gardaí.
The aim of the audit is to start overhauling the inconsistencies between different counties and regions, and put an end to confusion among drivers.
