The Revenue Commissioners are to publish information notices in the national papers in a bid to dispel confusion and concern over property tax payments.

There's been widespread criticism of the payments system that will see home-owners charged for the 2014 tax this month if they choose to pay by debit or credit card.

Meanwhile, the issue will be discussed when ministers hold their weekly cabinet meeting in the morning.

This evening the Finance Minister Michael Noonan met with the chairperson of Revenue Josephine Feehily to discuss the payment options available for the local property tax.

She gave him assurances that extra staff would be put in place to deal with calls to Revenue's helpline.

Revenue have placed public information notices in tomorrow's papers and say officials will continue to give interviews to radio and TV in order to clarify the situation to homeowners.

Josephine Feehily is also facing questions on the issue when she appears before the Oireachtas Finance Committee on Thursday.

Earlier the Finance Minister said that collecting the tax this month could also create accountancy difficulties for the government.

However, Revenue insist that card payments must be processed immediately because it would be illegal to hold onto people's card details until next year.

They say that people have other payment options that would not see the money being paid until it is due in 2014.
