Efforts to recover the three crew members of Rescue 116 are being hampered again today by bad weather.

Investigators looking at why the coastguard helicopter came down off the County Mayo coast now believe it hit rocks at Blackrock island

Three crew members have now been missing for a week.

It's hoped a weather window early tomorrow will allow a dive team to go down.

Susan Keogh has been speaking to Manager of the Irish Coastguard Declan Geoghegan:

The Air Accident Investigation Unit says Rescue 116 may have crashed on Blackrock island off the Mayo Coast.

It follows an inspection of wreckage from the tail of the Irish Coastguard helicopter.

In a statement, the Chief Inspector of Air Accidents, Jurgen Whyte, said the unit has recovered tail wreckage from the area around the Lighthouse on Blackrock.

The island, off the Mayo Coast, is close the last recorded position of the helicopter.

Mr Whyte warned it was not possible to be definitive about the cause of the accident.

However, he revealed there appear to be marks on some of the wreckage that "are consistent with the tail of the aircraft contacting rocky surfaces on the Western end of Blackrock".

The unit adds that its investigation "has not yet definitively identified the initial point of impact".

The search for the three missing crewmen from Rescue 116 continues tomorrow.

Irish Coastguard saying a break in the weather in the afternoon may allow them to make progress with the recovery effort.

The multi-agency team has received signals from the aircraft's black box flight recorder.

Experts have mapped the sea floor where helicopter is thought to have gone down, but high winds have prevented them from recovering the bodies of the three crewmen from the wreckage.

The funeral of the fourth crew member Capt. Dara Fitzpatrick took place in Dublin on Saturday.
