Meath East TD Regina Doherty is to make a formal complaint about Senator David Norris.
It follows angry exchanges in the Seanad today, during which Senator Norris rounded on Deputy Doherty over the forthcoming referendum on the abolition of the Seanad.
In a statement tonight, Ms Doherty said she found his language "sexist and deeply inappropriate".
Regina Doherty says she was upset by the personal nature of the remarks Senator Norris made about her.
He made the remarks to protest against her stance on the forthcoming referendum on abolition of the Seanad.
Ms. Doherty, who is Fine Gael's deputy director of elections, says his comments have done nothing to strengthen his claim that the superior level of debate in the Seanad means the upper house is worth saving .
She says his remarks were "contrived and intentional".
Deputy Doherty says she will be making a formal complaint to the Leader of the Seanad in relation to Senator Norris' comments.
