A status red wind alert has been issued for Cork, with Storm Ellen bringing very severe and destructive winds.
The warning comes into effect at 9pm and will last until midnight.
The rest of Munster, Galway, and Mayo will come under a Status Orange alert at 9pm which will last until 6am tomorrow.
A yellow warning will be in place for the rest of the country.

Local authorities are preparing for the storm and deploying temporary flood defenses and putting response staff on standby.
The National Directorate of Fire and Emergency Management Crisis Management Team is urging anyone holidaying in affected counties to stay away from all coastal areas.
Road users are also being urged to slow down and be aware of the dangers of fallen trees.
