A Status Red weather warning is due to come into operation in Galway and Clare from 1 pm today as Storm Jorge hits Ireland. People in both counties are advised to stay indoors for the duration of the warning which will last until 4 pm.
Winds in Galway and Clare could reach up to 80 km/h with gusts of up to 130 km/h.
An orange wind warning will be operational for the rest of the country with wind gusts of between 120 km/h and 130km/h.

Status Yellow rain warnings have also been issued for Munster, Connacht and Donegal and there is a Status Yello snow/ice warning for the rest of the country.
Storm Jorge is the third named storm this month with flooding also likely in coastal areas.
The National Emergency Co-Ordination Group is to meet this morning to assess the situation as the Storm Jorge approaches.
